Under 13/14 Football v BCS - 8th February

Match Report

In our return fixture v BCS we faced a strong BCS team in harsh conditions.  With the temperatures dipping below -2c and a biting wind, our brave girls took the pitch with apprehension.  The match had almost been called off but I knew our girls were up for the challenge.  In fact, it was so cold that the pitch marking machine froze!!  With many of our players enjoying the company of Mickey and Minnie, our team was somewhat green.

Prudence and Immie were determined from the outset, barking instructions and playing in every position on the field.  Many of our players did not get out of gear until late in the first half, when we found ourselves 3 goals down.

Hannah, Lucy and Immie were brilliant in defence in the second half, advancing on the attackers rather than retreating.  Jasmine grew in confidence and she demonstrated some brave tackles.  Olivia was excellent in midfield, covering the field and marking several players.  Alicia, despite showing nerves, got into the game in the second half and gained some valuable experience.  Natasha was extremely unlucky not to score in the last few minutes, blasting her shot inches wide.  We had a corner in the dying seconds of the game, so we threw everyone into the box but didn't manage to get a shot on target.  Thankfully the ref blew for full time as BCS were advancing up the field.  Final Score 5-0.

The girls played with sportsmanship and good spirit and we enjoyed a lovely warm pain au chocolat after the match.  Well done girls for braving the Baltic!
