Under 13/14 Football v BCS - 25th January

Match Report

We took a mixed team of footballers to BCS today, consisting of Year 7, 8 & 9 girls, most of which had little experience of football.  We were looking forward to a relaxed and friendly game of football in what was a dull Burns Day.  The girls were divided into two teams of 6, meaning that everyone had an opportunity to play a full game of football.

With our new girl Emily in goal, the first team took the field, with a certain degree of trepidation.  It didn't take long for the midfield and strike force of Prudence, Alisha, Rebekah and Lucia to settle down and begin firing shots at the BCS defence.  After five mins of steady pressure, Prudence fired home our first goal of the game, a confident shot with her right foot.  Grace, Immy and Emily were determined in defence, with Grace in particular stopping some vital shots and clearing her lines.  Hannah subbed on and was a key player in midfield.  The game carried on at a steady pace with Moyles dominating throughout.  It finished 3-0 to Moyles Court - a brilliant score and a well played match.

In the second game v BCS, the girls were hesitant from the outset.  Neither team managed to score in the first eight minutes as a result of slack passing and no attacking moves.  Lucia and Rebekah soon realised that the goal keeper for BCS was not confident and began shooting at will.  Rebekah scored a lovely goal from the edge of the box and Lucia was unlucky not to score on several occasions.  The BCS keeper woke herself up and stopped five shots on target from Rebekah, Charlotte and Lucia.  Lucy was brilliant in goal, stopping several shots when our defence had leaked!  BCS put away a scuffed shot which trickled into the goal and the game ended 1-1.

Just as pleasing as the result was the behaviour of the girls, they were a credit to the school and I was proud of every one of them.  Well done!
